@rattlecans @philrandal in the beginning of the AIDS crisis, I think everyone was convinced it only affected gay men, intravenous drug users, and Haitian refugees. The Reagan admin’s first reaction was almost literally “great! they can all drop dead.” It took enormous pressure to get them moving.
