@richard_dubourg @BradCameron25 @ole_b_peters @StephanieKelton in MMT the main purpose of tax is to create a universal demand for government-issued IOUs. Otherwise anyone could write an IOU to anyone else & it could circulate as a means of exchange if the issuer were considered good for it.
