@bernard_prof I think we’re starting from opposite ends of the same spectrum – I did my fieldwork in Imerina, in Madagascar, where in, say 17-18C, almost everyone was a farmer but most descent groups were also “silver smiths” or “eel fishers” etc depending on what they did for the king
