I’m an anthropologist, sometimes I occupy things & such.

I see anarchism as something you do not an identity...

...so don’t call me the anarchist anthropologist

okay attaching screenshots no longer works. It always used to. Now it just tells me the tweet failed to upload

Just to make my position utterly clear: it’s my profound wish that Boris Johnson swiftly recovers from COVID-19, then utterly fails at everything else he attempts in the most humiliating way possible, is ousted by a popular uprising & remembered by history only as an evil buffoon

oh BRILLIANT positioning – if the Tories adopt many of Corbyn’s policies (just likely in horrible ways), Labour will oppose them by becoming literally the Conservative Party https://t.co/d30tSVcWRU

ok is it just me or does this not make any sense. BJ has “moderate” symptoms but they gave him oxygen anyway. Do they normally give oxygen to corona patients who check in for tests and whose only symptom is a persistent high fever? https://t.co/Gya9Hwf8kt

but ultimately she dies because she wasn’t as smart as she thought, instead of getting a harmless drugged out conspiracy theorist she misspelled the name, like the pointless bureaucrat she obviously is, & got an innocent with combat experience 14/

1

the ultimate evil woman, in contrast, is Athena, who is of course named for the goddess of knowledge who was born fully armed from her father’s head. Crystal recognises her instantly as the only one who’s actually “smart” 13/

1

finally, both characters who survive are women who are redeemed by their caring role: the flight attendant that’s all she does, but Crystal humanises herself when she sees one of the possibly fake refugees has a baby, the baby at least must be an innocent, & saves her life 12/

(this is of course reinforced by the fact that Crystal got her combat skills in Afghanistan, where she deployed violence only on orders, even though the entire project made basically no sense & she presumably knew it. 11/)

so the ultimate message: proles should leave the knowledge work to the knowledge workers (PMC), & the PMC should leave the getting-your-hands-dirty (= violence) to the proles – 10/

but here, everything is about the evils of hateful thinking. Good people are those who do their jobs and don’t ask too many questions. Even the fake embassy guy blows his cover because he keeps trying to understand why, why did they choose YOU? 9/

1

it’s also odd everyone compares it to The Most Dangerous Game (1932) but not to Surviving the Game (1995) where it’s white people hunting the homeless Black guy played by Ice T .. where the victim is played entirely sympathetically. 8/

(being in the UK, I can’t help but think the way the same Tories 2 years ago cheering their voting down a pay raise for nurses are now literally publicly applauding nurses – no, they don’t want your love, asshole, they want a change in compensation & the organisation of work) 7/

(so in that sense it’s liberals calling liberals out as haters, just haters against the working class. Exposing the hypocrisy is totally legitimate, if rather clumsily done, but the point of class is that it’s the same no matter how you feel about it. 6/

the Trumpians are all there because they asked too many questions (both they and the liberals also deserve to die because they “hate” the other, which makes it ultimately still a liberal movie, all about the relation of emotions & morality.) 5/

I found this implausible in plot terms – a military person is going to consider who the enemy is & say, if they’re in with the local authorities or not – as basic need-to-know intel, but .@nikadubrovsky pointed out that’s the whole point of the movie 4/

the weirdest thing for me was the hero is the one who doesn’t want to know who’s trying to kill them & what their motives are, says so aggressively, they’re crazy, that’s all she needs to know 3/

so the message seemed to be, rather crudely, if you’re an ex-army car rental clerk with no strong political opinions, or a flight attendant just doing your job serving the rich people, & don’t ask too many questions, you’re ok & deserve to survive, if only that 2/

1

anyone see #TheHunt? I’m not sure what the fuss is about. [SPOILER] so ok, it’s got a bunch of Trumpian crazies, who are obvious assholes, & a bunch of rich liberals, who are obvious assholes, & they kill each other. Only decent characters were Crystal & the Flight Attendant 1/

5

why because people might support giving them too much, Matt? For you know, obviously and undeniably risking their lives to save others? https://t.co/vI9RJvz6RY

You know you live in London when every evening, during the Corona Lockdown, at least one house starts blasting “Ghost town” by The Specials really loud out of the window. Could be worse. I liked the Beat better at the time but I guess they don’t age as well.

I’m a Remainer myself (though I can see arguments on both sides) but this is kind of what everyone was afraid of. Starmer is going to turn Labour back into a PMC party in permanent opposition & leave the working class to the Tories https://t.co/vRblodw2nR

this is what I hate the most about neoliberalism: it tries to destroy human community, & hence, human collective intelligence (knowledge, experience, collaboration) on every level, on the excuse of outsourcing it onto managers trained in business school https://t.co/S2jhJaanye

anyway, these guys actually DID get into outer space & eventually the moon. Can we imagine a guy who wants to raise the dead & a Crowleyan sorcerer getting hired by some corporation, no matter how “visionary” now? 7/

(Eventually she abandoned him & ran off with L. Ron Hubbard, and NASA fired him when they found out he was also an anarchist, & he became a special effects guy for Hollywood and blew himself up.) Wouldn’t that be a good movie, to parallel the weirdos on both sides? 6/

so the US had to respond. Who did they get to set up the NASA jet propulsion lab to make the rocket engines? Jack Parsons, a Theleman disciple of Aleister Crowley who’s wife’s sister would organise orgies to invoke spirits to give him ideas for designing rocket ships 5/

Stalin killed most but one ended up the chief engineer in the gulag they sent him to & played around with rockets in his spare time; when Khruschev found out he thought “gee, that would be a brilliant PR stunt, lets launch someone into space.” 4/

the Russians who started it all were biocosmic immortalists who want to achieve eternal life or even bring back all the dead oppressed peasants & proletarians (& therefore needed Mars, etc, to put them all on…) 3/
