I’m an anthropologist, sometimes I occupy things & such.

I see anarchism as something you do not an identity...

...so don’t call me the anarchist anthropologist

Remember too: Turkish intelligence played a major role in creating ISIS and worked closely with ISIS commanders all along. Now Trump has declared those very ISIS commanders, now prisoners, are to be handed over to Turkish intelligence

remember any Turkish invasion of Rojava will be a NATO invasion of Rojava. Any genocide they carry out will be NATO genocide https://t.co/0bHQdw6Y8G

why am I thinking putting teenage climate activists in stocks for public shaming might just possibly backfire on these people? https://t.co/vTnKoSZlpi

spot about BoJo pulling up his sleeves will of course be followed by “Two Minute Hate” slot featuring Jeremy Corbyn as Emmanuel Goldstein

so if the Queen fires BoJo does that mean all the shouty Farangists will have to become Republicans? https://t.co/MAhTwIloYY

here is a chapter on some of Wittgenstein’s remarks on Frazer that I originally prepared for a volume of chapters to be published by HAU. Needless to say it didn’t end up appearing there. Perhaps some might enjoy reading it. https://t.co/GmQOvivFaE

Look it’s me, just a little bit earlier, talking to Phoenix Rainbow & his other awesome guests https://t.co/u7SrBZTo9a

2

When they first talked about expanding The World Transformed into a pop ed initiative I told everyone I could I’d love to be involved. Not only did it never happen – I’m not on any of the panels at the TWT annual conf this weekend either. Oh well. I’ll work on the book instead.

4

well it’s day 6 & HAU continues to rejoice in the aggressive support of the alt-right, fans of “scientific” race theory & assorted outright Nazis, while refusing to clarify if society members collaborated with the writing of Quillette’s hit piece. https://t.co/kOoPhlqpPR

6

If so don’t you think it’s interesting that’s the same person who just appeared on some podcast exactly confirming the GdC/Quillette version of events?

1

Don’t you think it’s time to carry out a proper internal investigation? Maybe starting with who was in control of Hau’s twitter account that rt Quillette at exactly the moment they told me they were researching the piece? Would it have been Hau’s social media director?

3

You tried the “we’re the new HAU we have nothing to do with old HAU so we don’t have to address any of that” line – despite keeping GdC on everything but the journal – but that strategy seems to have definitively failed.

2

for the 4th day: will HAU to clarify their contacts with Quillette. Why are you not responding? Don’t you think the point where a eugenics journal is fighting your battles for you is the point where you can no longer clap your hands over your eyes & say “nothing to see here?” https://t.co/stemcYeAyn

then, when the piece comes out, both journals carefully include or put out statements saying they had NO contact with one another. CL is even considerate enough to give names of the 3 people at HAU she had no contact with: * G. da Col * C. McGranahan * M. Lambek #hautalk

2

now isn’t that odd? What would possibly cause an anthropology journal to publicise and approve of the self-celebratory end-of-year notice of a eugenicist race science journal? And at the exact time Quillette’s editor told me she was writing a piece about HAU? #hautalk

5

Myself, I find it very odd, both Quillette & HAU claiming to have no contact with one another Why? On 20 Dec 2018 I got an email from Claire Lehmann saying she was preparing this article. Precisely 11 days later, here’s HAU retweeting CL’s end of year statement #hautalk https://t.co/usIwl8ehGU

3

for the third day I am demanding HAU respond to my question: are you saying the Society itself had no “direct or indirect contact”, or are you saying no MEMBER of the society (including Giovanni da Col, Michael Lambek, or Carole McGranahan) had direct or indirect contact? https://t.co/kOoPhlqpPR

because ultimately they see themselves as part of the same team, the same propaganda engine. And as a result, they think they don’t believe what they’re saying, but effectively they do; they think they’re the scam artists, but they’re actually the mark. 11/

9

Anyway this seems the only explanation for the reaction of so many Qui*lette readers. CL tries to trick them. Her initial claims are revealed to be false. Rather than object, they try to come up with ways to say it’s true anyway, by twisting logic into pretzels if necessary 10/

5

… but now we don’t need to any more.” In other words, he was addressing the entire audience as if they were part of the scam. This is how contemporary right wing thought works. It tricks you into thinking you’re the trickster. 9/

This 1st occurred to me right after the last US election when Trump was doing a round of victory rallies; at one point he mentioned HRC, the crowd chanted “lock her!” He replied, “no, we don’t have to say that any more. That was a good line for us to use during the election… 8/

9

it strikes me this is revealing of a deep truth about the nature of the Trumpian alt right, fake news, etc. It entails a style of propaganda that scams people by convincing they’re part of the team doing the scamming, rather than the marks. 7/

why? you’d think that discovering the author of a piece was intentionally trying to mislead you might put the reader off a little. With many, at least, it seems here to have had the opposite effect, they insist loudly & aggressively that it must be true in some sense anyway 6/

3

the one thing that actually is slightly interesting in this case is the reaction of Qui*lette supporters. On learning that they had been deceived, that it was not my petition, that it wasn’t a sexual harassment scandal, they simply shrugged & said it didn’t matter 5/

7

… when in fact the scandal was not about sexual harassment at all, and my many public statements against the person never once mentioned sexual harassment. 4/
