I’m an anthropologist, sometimes I occupy things & such.

I see anarchism as something you do not an identity...

...so don’t call me the anarchist anthropologist

so this shows in the first 2 years of Corbyn, BEFORE the AS line started being pushed, AS was decreasing rapidly in the LP & society as a whole. Be very interesting to see what’s happening in 2019 – I strongly suspect the media furore has reversed this progress & made AS worse https://t.co/Calg5ap7Be

(don’t get me wrong, I don’t feel very physically endangered. But I can imagine it becoming physically dangerous, and I just didn’t see that as a possibility anyplace I lived in the past.)

Living in the UK is the first time in my life I felt genuinely physically endangered as a Jewish person, and I lay this directly at the feet of cynics like Margaret Hodge & Tom Watson. It’s as if they are trying to create the antisemitism they pretend to decry.

this was perhaps the most rt statement I ever made, it’s been made into memes, discussed widely. Yet every attempt I have made to write a similar article for the mainstream press has been systematically turned down. Apparently in the UK, no Jew is allowed to say this. https://t.co/rTpAwqGYmZ

Americans: here is the face of the man who is fighting every day to ensure you don’t have affordable health care & your children will live in an ecological catastrophe. Isn’t that just exactly what he should look like? https://t.co/po3ca04u4D

even if you search for an expression which contains a quote (e.g., “are said to ‘own’ their…”, the quote marks are not searched for

Help! I am throwing myself on the good offices of my twitter followers. I want to search ethnographies for places where the word “owns” appears in quotation marks. How do you search for something that’s already in quotes? I tried “”owns”” and ‘”owns”‘ and ” “owns” ” etc. No dice.

trying to catch up on my philosophy – I seem to have ended up faced with taking careful notes on Mehdi Belhaj Kacem’s 25 page summary of Total Recall, in French. Maybe I’ll just watch the movie again instead.

oh yeah and Tom Watson. Man that slimeball makes me mad. I have a deep, abiding, visceral hatred for Tom Watson. There, I said it. I think his cynical adoption of antisemitism as a political weapon endangers me as a Jew. I hate him. So lock me up.

it seems most people in France hate Macron, which is one reason he feels making hatred illegal is so important. I myself also hate Sir Richard Branson, Rupert Murdock, and obviously Tony Blair.

perhaps we should all write a little about things we hate before it’s made illegal. First of all, I HATE centrist politicians. Well, all politicians. But especially the centrists, I HATE those guys.

“French Parliament has moved toward a new law that would give internet companies like Facebook and Google just 24 hours to remove hateful speech from their sites or face fines of $1.4 million per violation” I don’t know about you but I HATE this decision https://t.co/RBADnSSJFl

all surveys confirm that centrists are far more opposed to democracy, freedom of speech and other basic civic rights, than either right- or left-wingers https://t.co/aQzZcEKBc7

People sometimes ask how’d you deal with corporations w/out a state. W/out a state & its legal structure there are no corporations. They’d just be gangs. The Medellín “cartel” isn’t a cartel, it’s precisely that: a corporation outside the legal framework of the state.

so to repeat: the accusations are NOT anonymous, the “investigation” consisted of an attempt to intimidate the survivors into silence & to investigate the possibility of legal retaliation (I wasn’t the only person, apparently, they considered suing.) #hautalk

so claiming these are anonymous “rumours” & have been proved false is simply a lie. The survivors were intimidated into silence. The message sent was: “if this is what happens to a famous senior scholar like DG for a private letter, just imagine what will happen to you!” #hautalk

4

according to “hauleaks” the “investigation” so regularly referred to by GdC was conducted by McGranahan after this; it concluded the allegations must be false as no one would come forward by name, & concluded by investigating the possibility of suing me for defamation! #hautlk

3

GdC and some allies then went on to claim that it was in fact me who was circulating this very letter in an attempt to “defame” HAU. (In fact I never showed it to anyone except some of the survivors for confirmation/approval beforehand.) #hautalk

3

The private email to GdC was then circulated to others, apparently, by McGranahan & at least once by Michael Lambek, despite my clear & repeated objections that it was a private letter & I did not give permission for them to have it. #hautalk

3

McGranahan replied that my term had expired several months before & people had only just noticed & it was a total coincidence it was 3 hours after I’d asked GdC to resign. In other words, she effectively affirmed they would certainly retaliate. So I refused to give names #hautalk

4

we had plenty of names, dates, & details but obviously I wasn’t going to give names if there was a danger of retaliation & GdC was constantly threatening to destroy lives & careers. So I asked: “what was the process used to remove my name from the masthead?” #hautalk

3

I then received a message from McGranahan demanding evidence for the allegations. I told her it was a private email & I had not given permission for her to read it, & she brushed this off. She demanded names of accusers. #hautalk

3

finally, on a cc list consisting of just me, GdC & Marshall Sahlins, I listed some of the allegations, said I believed them, & asked GdC to step down. GdC replied he would cut off all contact with me & a few hours later my name mysteriously vanished from the masthead #hautalk

3

since I was one of those most directly involved with the journal, even if not in management role, I tried to take the lead reaching out to convince other staff that GdC had to be removed & held accountable – I hit a total wall & absolutely failed #hautalk

4

for almost a year prior to the matter becoming public, a group of older scholars who were or had been involved in HAU, myself included, who had become aware of a pattern of extreme abuse carried out in our name, gathered testimonies & tried to do something about it #hautalk

4

I am so tired of seeing HAU let GdC constantly repeat these claims that these are “anonymous” accusations & that he was exonerated by investigation. These are outright lies & at this point that HAU editors must be aware of it. This is what really happened. #hautalk https://t.co/HC9RapOxy1

hmm, this is the best I could find in print, neglects to mention GA Graeber was universally known as “Dolly” & is actually the man who introduced the mandolin into American music. My dad was from a later marriage. https://t.co/cIjitb2YOU

off to Leipzig. Family history recounts my great-great-grandfather, Johan Graeber, a shoemaker from Bartenstein, E. Prussia, fought in the battle there – his unit was “1st over the wall” & only c.40% survived. I’ve never found an account of the battle that mentions a wall though.
