I’m an anthropologist, sometimes I occupy things & such.

I see anarchism as something you do not an identity...

...so don’t call me the anarchist anthropologist

typical pattern: the media decides a movement is so unimportant they don’t even cover it any more. The government simultaneously decides the same movement is so important they need to call out the army… https://t.co/BcbnPq0FiT

.@davidwengrow just came up with the perfect title for our new book on prehistory – “We Have Never Been Stupid” (must say it here because they’ll never let us use it.)

this is going to be fun: how will the media find a way to get around referring to him as a fascist terrorist when he actually calls himself a fascist terrorist? They will find a way. https://t.co/zpT9aTszFa

ironically the most prominent person who has is the spokesman for Erdogan, himself perhaps the world’s most notable purveyor of fascist state terrorism today. I guess it takes one to know one. https://t.co/demdUSYkVO

which is what it should be called – some headlines have gone so far as to say “terrorism” but I haven’t seen “fascist terrorism” yet, though if this doesn’t qualify for that, hard to see what does https://t.co/AKvS2urmhO

3/ so it feels a bit ironic that nowadays the ways I am most frequently publicly excoriated are: a. for being a member of a “privileged fraternal elite”, & b. for having teeth that are still not completely straightened & capped

2/ I could only afford proper dental care when I was almost 40; I keenly remember losing two teeth in grad school, despite working 2 sometimes 3 jobs, & when I complained profs would say “ah so you see yourself as coming from a WC background?” Like it’s all in your head you see.

1/ I understand I’m a senior prof in a major university now, but you know I am a guy of working class origins who got kicked out of his own country’s academic system entirely for revolutionary politics (not just professing but at least occasionally acting on them),

Wednesday I’ll be at #MaydayRooms (88 Fleet Street) to listen to Ilona Otto on shifting some of the responsibility for Climate change to the people who are actually causing the problem https://t.co/yxPlkcoSoH … https://t.co/UUsUxdsGFJ …

Come to the #LSEClimateStrike, March 15, 11/11:30 AM at Sheffield Street (that’s outside the Student Union). It’s important.

very good piece on how purported concern for AS (bogus “philosemitism” for political advantage) is facilitating a revival of real antisemitism https://t.co/nxcW0BvKHE

Okay once again it looks like I must try to write my piece about how the AS campaign vs Labour is itself AS. But where? Guardian, New Statesman, etc all rejected my proposal last time. But a mainstream venue would be really called for here.

so 4 days now & .@BBCNews still refuses to report that the head of the opposition party was punched to the ground by a right-winger during a public event over the weekend. BBC bias was already a national disgrace but becoming an accessory to pol violence is a genuine new low.

Aha! so the PM announces cops don’t really prevent crime. Is she now a police abolitionist? Why have them at all if they make no difference? https://t.co/iKqmSDBHa5

hey .@bbcnews why have you still refused to report that someone punched the leader of the opposition party in the head two days ago?

Most criminals don’t think much about how a crime will be reported, punished. Those contemplating political violence absolutely do. By refusing to even say someone just punched Corbyn in the head, .@BBCNews sent a clear signal they consider the Labour Left fair game for violence

remember Angela Eagle’s office window, which was supposedly broken by a Corbynite though it turned out not to be her window anyway? That was a top media story for weeks. Corbyn’s head? Not nearly so much of a story!

Now let’s imagine how the same British media would be reacting today it a Momentum supporter had punched Chuka Umunna in the head (while holding an egg in his fist) yesterday instead of a right-winger doing it to Corbyn

so would someone have to actually murder Corbyn for the #BBC, & rest of the media to publicly reflect on their behaviour aimed at whipping up of hatred towards him & other members of the Labour Left, or would even that not be enough?

Centrists hate democracy. That’s what it all comes down to. Why else would they say the main problem w/ fascism is that it’s “populist” (i.e., opposed to elites)? Observe here how AS becomes a way of saying “any popular opposition to any ruling class is evil” https://t.co/292KpVGu7j
