I’m an anthropologist, sometimes I occupy things & such.

I see anarchism as something you do not an identity...

...so don’t call me the anarchist anthropologist

here is the full list of demands of the #giletsjaunes as I’ve been sent them https://t.co/xRSWIkRWsx

background to the uprising of the Gilets Jaunes as revolt of the caring classes as against neo-feudalism https://t.co/DvKRz6dHis

this is one reason you have to love France: most people really do support protests, strikes, and direct actions there https://t.co/0CrklvY3oQ

Have we discovered a general sociological rule? Under neoliberal conditions, there will roughly one homeless person for every accountant? https://t.co/QNcop7kYKT

I have passed the Life in the UK test! What’s more I am delighted to report I successfully guessed the date of St George’s day by the use of the handy acronym DPGA.

2

those are very high proportions of both. It would be very interesting to see if there is a direct correlation: societies with low rates of accountancy also have low rates of homelessness, etc

9

At least 1 in 200 British citizens are homeless. About the same proportion of the population, 1 in 200, are accountants. Kind of makes you think…. https://t.co/Xe5hdGAoM7

on the other hand, Kurdish feminists and Black Lives Matter are regularly censored on Facebook https://t.co/fwhAnKLD5C

But I am thinking on a much broader level: why do we feel there has to be a formal absurdity of some kind to justify laughter in the first place? At least for anyone over say age 5

9

Obviously this is not true of every situation in which people laugh – they might not be happy at all but laugh at something just because it’s funny – and if they’re laughing at someone’s clumsiness, appearance etc it’s obviously far more inconsiderate than laughing from joy …

3

Partly because simply saying “I am feeling happy” – unless in a specifically convivial situation – is seen as inconsiderate of all those who are not. So you say “I am just taking pleasure in some irony or contradiction” instead

2

I am not really familiar with existing theories of humour but it occurs to me that one could explain much humour as a pretext or alibi for happiness. Small children often laugh out of sheer happiness – “look! That’s so cool!” – but adults somehow feel they can’t do that.

I am very depressed to learn the IMF is back in charge of Argentina’s economy. They had been kicked out of Latin America almost entirely in the ’00s. Now they’re back with a vengeance it seems.

this is completely outrageous. This is like saying when Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait, any crimes committed by his troops could only be addressed in Iraqi courts! (Coincidence that Erdogan promised EU he’d use Afrin to house refugees who might otherwise have come to Europe?) https://t.co/vxenQb3qC9

Tory MP admits he is in favour of useless employment: would rather citizens be paid to just pretend to work all day than to be left to their own devices. https://t.co/wENpy5OcMP

so Russian spies are everyone’s obsession; Chinese spies are the object of at least periodic paranoia; but why is it no one ever talks about Indian spies? They’re a major power. They must have spies. Maybe their spies are so good at it, no one has any idea they’re even there.

I’d say this would rather put the lie to the frequent insistence that activists are forbidden to give away free food without approval because the food has not been approved for health and safety https://t.co/bS27D0pvDR

Latin market in Seven Sisters needs help to raise £7.5k by December so it isn’t “luxury flattened” – they have their own alternative plan, just need a little cash to put it over the top. https://t.co/qyYrY6JhBG

the amazing thing is US has got to such a pass that this isn’t even a top news story as far as I can make out. You can just see the editor going dumdedum… some loon shoots up some 13-year-olds w an assault rifle… whatever. Anything really dramatic to lead with? https://t.co/XLKtuIwZ5E

daily Turkish war crime report – pretty much not a day goes by where Turkey’s NATO-member army does not commit a terror attack on civilians somewhere. Funny how it’s never considered news. https://t.co/Ua7V6Es9O9

I actually kind of like pineapple on pizza so I guess I won’t propose myself https://t.co/VOGhelienY

vrai not vrais you have NO idea how annoying it is to try to write something that’s not in English with autocorrect running. Well, probably you do…

I used to reject the critique of the unitary subject. The older i get though the less unitary I feel. Partly because I find myself asking “how and to what extent was that guy who 20 years ago rejected the critique of the unitary subject exactly ‘me'”?

this reminds one of the famous headline”something went wrong in jet crash, experts conclude.” https://t.co/xrDCnxsG4E
