I’m an anthropologist, sometimes I occupy things & such.

I see anarchism as something you do not an identity...

...so don’t call me the anarchist anthropologist

Well that’s going to be his babe for all eternity: Joe “Shoot ’em in the Legs” Biden. The perfect expression of the difference between the two parties https://t.co/e9XmbKM5Q6

(which is ironic: easier to understand now why old people in the ’60s thought the “never trust anyone over 30” crowd was ultimately going to kill them all, since in a way, they literally were…)

there’s no harm in at least considering the good ones. The Hong Kong flu interested me because it killed a million people, mostly over 65, in one year – I hadn’t realised how bad it was. And that was right after the “summer of love”

we all know what the bad scenarios are: second worse wave, permanent endemic deadly form, or it could mutate into something even more deadly like I seem to remember the bubonic plague did at one point.

clarification: I don’t ” believe” this, ok? It’s just one possible scenario. Since I don’t think a vaccine is likely any time soon there’s only three good scenarios: 1. mutation into something less deadly, 2. effective treatments, 3. tracking/isolation largely eliminates COVID

I can’t assess the science. So I am reduced to historian: well, how many flu-like pandemics just petered out or became harmless, how many didn’t? Only a scientist can say how comparable each was.

this is kind of what I’d hoped – the Hong Kong flu killed a million people in 1968, also mostly over 65, then mutated into something less deadly that’s still around today. A parasite that kills its host is a failed parasite. #covidhope https://t.co/BPiUQqbhfx

it’s perfectly plausible that Trump could’ve given orders to use live ammo, & some police chiefs are saying “what? the populace is armed! You really want to spark a civil war to get elected & have us clean up your mess? Fuck you.” And this is their way of communicating it 9/

this is what makes the current US situation weird from my POV: 1. you have widespread infiltration of outright Nazis into police forces & that must strain “blue wall” solidarity a bit, especially when 2. politicians like Trump are intentionally fanning the flames 8/

what I do know is you only get to know what’s happening on the higher ranks years later, if ever: i.e., we now know in Seattle N30, the police chief refused to send in his men to attack peaceful protestors for the first day until he got an angry call from the Sec of State. 7/

(this is especially true if it’s a small action and a relatively low-ranking officer is in charge), or 2. there’s a potential revolution, in which case some might refuse orders to shoot. We’re not there yet in the US but it’s possible the higher-ups are afraid it will 6/

so some are personally conflicted, but follow orders so it doesn’t matter at all. Only makes a difference if: 1. commanders in the filed might go lighter on direct action by a group they like (i.e., a labour union), way harsher on say, anti-cop protests 5/

fwiw they tend to be so cynical they know they’re fighting for the wrong side. I remember during an OWS eviction asking a line of riot cops “how do you feel about being the bad guys?” One beefy guy actually said “you know it used to bother me but I’ve come to terms with it.” 4/

as individuals, the vast majority of cops are assholes, & typically, chosen & trained to be capable of killing & maiming their fellow citizens or at least supporting colleagues who do. That’s why most regimes hesitate to call in the army: the army is more likely to defect 3/

I’ve been facing off vs cops for more than 20 years now, & know 1. cops personally HATE anti-cop protests, 2. cops are almost never ordered to express solidarity with protests they despise, if that’s what’s happening, someone must be worried about total loss of control 2/

for purposes of clarification, I didn’t say the cop solidarity gestures were sincere (certainly all of them weren’t), I just think it doesn’t matter much since either way, this kind of thing is so unusual it’s a sign of a system starting to break down. 1/

I think that would be safe. At least they say there’s no proven cases of anyone getting the virus from food. https://t.co/DsyRLeuBYp

Why do people always have to blame either Russia or China for anything they don’t like that happens in America? Why not India? I am going to start a rumor that Indian spies are responsible for the riots in the American cities.

what I don’t get is how it happened that someone manufactured riot gear in children’s sizes, and someone else bought and stockpiled it https://t.co/W4GPKU4wQ2
