@MattyGHG it’s the average I found but it’s presumably rounding in state colleges that are cheap for state residents etc. Just not two year community colleges which are much cheaper.

exciting email! Yes I have just received $211.46 for the rights to the Persian edition of Bullshit Jobs. Well, they’re under massive economic sanctions, so I guess they’re a bit skint. https://t.co/pLKpVnfcJ6

@Chomskyter It was very simple math. NYU students then were paying $20k/year. 8 courses a year = $2500 each. I was paid $2500. So I decided the woman with the spiked hair in the centre of the second row was paying me. The other $97.5k that Intro Anthro brought in was profit.

@niftynei oh I remember when I was in grad school & the government made a decision to start taxing student stipends as income. So my first reaction was “oh does that mean we can also apply for welfare & food stamps?” But they told me no, we couldn’t. So now you can!

@Chomskyter I remember calculating that in the adjunct course I taught at NYU, many years ago, that of the 40 students who took the course, one was paying my salary (assuming said student was taking 4 courses, 1/4 of their tuition went to me), the other 39 … who knows?

@mempko despite the jokes, ramen is actually quite good if you cook it with chinese sausage (which are super cheap) and snow peas. As I did for roughly 2/3 of my meals in college at some points.

for me the most disturbing element is that 40% of students don’t finish in 6 years. So more than half of Americans go to college but huge numbers never complete it. So they remain starving students doing casualized work forever, effectively

what the hell is wrong with America’s higher ed system? They charge students $35k a year placing them in debt for the rest of their life & then starve them? Where is all this money going? To sports stadiums? https://t.co/6IEUlbxJRd

@davidwengrow @politicsanth @MaryTracy It’ll be fun watching readers having fun with the book. I suspect it’ll also be alarming how many immediately start becoming alarmed by what they think we might, or even might not, be saying.
