@Itmechr3 think about the idea of the band as collectively producing music. It’s like Proletkult or something. An affinity group rather than an individual “genius” collectively making an artwork of (often) eternal value. Now this has been pushed to the margins.

@Itmechr3 someone pointed out it used to be every 1/3 of all working class kids could play a musical instrument; this was in part a direct result of guild socialism & intentional efforts by people like William Morris to create a counter-hegemonic culture

@Itmechr3 to be honest, my own feeling is that kids these days know too much about music, and it kind of stifles. Also, well, there’s been an assault on working class community & culture that has had effects, especially on the white working class

@Itmechr3 I think pop music has declined; it was always corporate but now it’s reached the point of comedy, like, it’s all written by 2 guys now. The good music, and there’s plenty, is very genre-oriented so if you don’t encounter it so much by accident, you have to look
