@SamLowryBR @jasonhickel no he’s looking for the online responses by whoever is most likely to say it’s all a crock, everything is getting better, and memorising the best lines for his next interview

@ScaleSilver49 @jasonhickel yeah I think if it hasn’t worked for 200 years we can say that one is settled let’s try something else now

@nikel99 I tend to be suspicious of “it’s all planned” narratives. If you meet these guys, which I occasionally do – I mean the Cummings types, not the BJs obviously – you realise they’re just not THAT smart.

@Itmechr3 I knew Veblen had worked a bit with the IWW and that “sabotage” was a buzz-word at the time, but didn’t realise Kropotkin has also described profiteering in this way.

@Itmechr3 I need to look at this as well! Ironically I just co-wrote an intro to the new PM edition of Mutual Aid, and have a huge pile of Veblen books my French friends advised me to read, but, who has time? I should definitely look into this!

@weird_al_77 @jasonhickel yeah they basically have no arguments left for the existing system, so they have to insist any alternative must by definition be even worse

1

@simchaonn obviously I didn’t really fit in there, even though the late ’70s were the height of American liberalism so the majority of students at that point were on scholarship. I hear in the ’80s it went right back to old-fashioned unapologetic ruling classism

@simchaonn they didn’t. I had a weird hobby at age 11 of translating Maya hieroglyphics. Which weren’t yet translated in the ’70s. I sent a letter to one of them, and they arranged to get me into a fancy school, as Scotty MacNeish was based at the Peabody

@enfantmarxiste it’s totally bizarre, especially because my “preconceptions” are based on 20 years of activist engagement with people on the ground, while their established truth is a bunch of World Bank statistics that everyone knows are a political football

@hartsellml @jasonhickel as John Locke once said, you can’t make a person taller by declaring there’s now 13 inches in a foot

@enfantmarxiste don’t want to go into it. Just suffice to say they employ extremely dirty tactics & I wouldn’t touch any of the core members I dealt with with a barge-pole now. Kind of awful people. They’ve also been politically disastrous for the US left but that’s another story

@hamasinpitta @georgeeaton yes they destroyed our culture. Historically they will be remembered as on par with Alaric the Goth or Attila the Hun.

@MayhemH @Prolapsarian It’s not like we’re displacing anyone. Adding moreTurkish and Indian (etc) options under the new lefty-in-exile regime is hardly a disaster

@brockplus just kids who’ve been forced to sit in small rooms for months on end. Can’t really blame them for wanting to have a little fun & they don’t hurt anyone that I’ve seen, but there’s so many better reasons to fight the police.

@CianydeArgentum @Timlagor it’s got relatively small countries with reliable material infrastructures.

@Itmechr3 I’ve been thinking about comparing them but have been too busy writing other things to get time to read any of the Veblen books I’ve piled around the house

@LucioMM1 @boniazadi if you choose to define all guerrillas as terrorists, why do you think your choice of definition should interest anybody else?

@JohnsonsSolicit Well it’s not like they are rioting for or against anything in particular –
