@Itsnotadistrac1 10% on crimes of any kind, the percentages for violent crime would be much much lower.

@dorneylass there was a police strike in NYC a few years back where the cops decided to only do “essential law enforcement” (some phrase like that – basically, just actually fight crime) for a week. City revenues plummeted.

@jazzpanflute there are definitely judges who were caught getting kickbacks for that sort of thing

@w41gy oh yes they primarily serve a political function and one of protecting property, but the revenue-collecting one is increasing in importance; they also do some minor social services to claim legitimacy.

@NouriPen @robotforaday @BeckieMarsland Irony is I think exams are rather silly but it’s not like I make the rules

@NouriPen @robotforaday @BeckieMarsland Well it wasn’t possible anyway. As usual 95% of those who chose to respond were nice people.

@JustinMeggitt @BeckieMarsland @jonbialecki But this is what I deserve for expecting intelligence and good will from twitter

@JustinMeggitt @BeckieMarsland @jonbialecki For Gods sake – you honestly think I was complaining about having to grade papers at all? I thought I was remarking on 1. Expecting one person to do 100 in a week, which guarantees you can’t do a good job, 2. Me idiotically trying to do it in two days

@weswpg @_Fartzilla They didn’t have a police force. If you wanted to report a theft or assault you couldn’t go to the Gestapo and ask them to investigate.

@BeckieMarsland Um asshole – I didn’t say it was an injustice. If anything I was complaining about what an idiot I was to try to do it in two days

@weswpg @_Fartzilla Actually one: Amsterdam during WWII. At one point the Nazis arrested the entire police dept. Property crime did go up but violent crime remained entirely unchanged

@LogicalAnalysis I tried to explain to others around me “I will be horrible to be around for the next two days just please understand its not about you” but I guess it doesn’t matter if they know that
