@Communista2 @gerbilmark @johnnytheshort I’ve experienced a surprising amount of AS in the UK, much more than in my native New York (though that’s not saying much.) But the Jewish people I know who’ve been actually threatened & bullied have been those going against the “left AS” narrative

@Communista2 @gerbilmark @johnnytheshort You’re being totally random. First you say im not Jewish then you seem to think I don’t think there are left wing antisemites. There’s not much point in talking to someone who just makes things up at random

@Communista2 @dadovdeon @gerbilmark @johnnytheshort maybe the solution to this problem is NOT to have a far-right government, rather than just calling anyone a racist who objects to it, or suspects it of foul play

@Communista2 @dadovdeon @gerbilmark @johnnytheshort yeah might be wrong, but it’s not antisemitic to speculate a far right gov’t (including out-and-out self-declared fascists) might be engaged in the sort of behaviour far right gov’ts and fascists have historically engaged in

@Communista2 @gerbilmark @johnnytheshort yeah and did you notice they all seem to come from the far right? Why is it not obvious that trying to convince the world leftists criticising the current far right wing Israeli gov’t is the big problem, & doing it in such a way as to empower the far right, makes Jews safer?

@Communista2 @gerbilmark @johnnytheshort no it isn’t. You might as well saying misrepresenting Macron’s foreign policy & blaming those overseas French people who support it as racism against French people.

@l_u_n_a13 @BlckCatBlckSky @Chomskyter some alternative unis pulled it off in the ’60s, but I think in order to do so you basically have to either have your profs spend 80% of their time on admin, or hire administrators and set off the same dynamic

@MattyGHG it’s the average I found but it’s presumably rounding in state colleges that are cheap for state residents etc. Just not two year community colleges which are much cheaper.

@keithcross9214 nah the advance is all you ever get with most foreign publishers. Still, you can say “Bullshit Jobs appeared in Farsi!”

@trotskybaby @mempko well I didn’t really eat breakfast. More like always dinner, sometimes lunch, unless I ate lunch on campus

@Chomskyter It was very simple math. NYU students then were paying $20k/year. 8 courses a year = $2500 each. I was paid $2500. So I decided the woman with the spiked hair in the centre of the second row was paying me. The other $97.5k that Intro Anthro brought in was profit.

@DefriesDavid with 3x as many administrators per prof as there were 30 years ago I’m not surprised

@niftynei oh I remember when I was in grad school & the government made a decision to start taxing student stipends as income. So my first reaction was “oh does that mean we can also apply for welfare & food stamps?” But they told me no, we couldn’t. So now you can!

@RulesSelmer @Chomskyter I know it’s like they’re TRYING to destroy British culture. First you get rid of the dole. Then you enslave students…

@Chomskyter I remember calculating that in the adjunct course I taught at NYU, many years ago, that of the 40 students who took the course, one was paying my salary (assuming said student was taking 4 courses, 1/4 of their tuition went to me), the other 39 … who knows?

@mempko despite the jokes, ramen is actually quite good if you cook it with chinese sausage (which are super cheap) and snow peas. As I did for roughly 2/3 of my meals in college at some points.

@davidwengrow @politicsanth @MaryTracy It’ll be fun watching readers having fun with the book. I suspect it’ll also be alarming how many immediately start becoming alarmed by what they think we might, or even might not, be saying.

@politicsanth @davidwengrow @MaryTracy No the book is not mainly about the Upper Paleolithic and Dawn is a gradual process
