@LovellPropguru @silenceindustry @Colectivisthipo @michaellondonsf @LDNRentersUnion there are few things less convincing than some guy droning on about how he claims he doesn’t care about something. Also few things less boring. If you really don’t care, you go away. That’s what I’m doing. Mute!

@Colectivisthipo @LovellPropguru @silenceindustry @michaellondonsf @LDNRentersUnion The difference between this and earlier ages isn’t the existence of so many people who think “I’ve got mine why should I care about anyone else’s problems” but that so many of them feel the need to go out in public & drone on and on about it

@Colectivisthipo @LovellPropguru @silenceindustry @michaellondonsf @LDNRentersUnion he represents the perspective off the apes that wanted to stay up in the trees

@silenceindustry @LovellPropguru @Colectivisthipo @michaellondonsf @LDNRentersUnion the thing that annoys me about guys like that is… well, there’s a whole list, but for starters, 1. the self-satisfied complacency, masking 2. complete cluelessness about how history actually works, combined with 3. unending self-importance

@LovellPropguru @Colectivisthipo @silenceindustry @michaellondonsf @LDNRentersUnion oh this is about your interest. In that case never mind. What do I care what you’re interested. The mystery is why you show up and announce what those interests are, as if everyone naturally would find *that* interesting.

@LovellPropguru @Colectivisthipo @silenceindustry @michaellondonsf @LDNRentersUnion here’s that same guy in ancient Rome saying that an economy based on slave plantations must have been better for everyone (including the slaves) than whatever came before or it never would have happened.

@LovellPropguru @Colectivisthipo @silenceindustry @michaellondonsf @LDNRentersUnion This is like some guy in ancient Rome saying “it’s pointless to say ‘slavery is wrong’ unless you can show me 1. exactly how the system of economic relations you propose to replace it will work, and 2. how we will convert the current empire to this alternative system.

@watermelonpunch @chickamora exactly, my last landlord was a landlord. He had a company, even if it just owned two buildings. He had employees. (Who he did not provide with protective gear except to the degree the gov’t mandated….)

@lightacandleOTM In Malagasy there’s a very concise phrase, “izay foy” which literally means “that which you are willing to give up”

@lightacandleOTM It says there are 9 patrons and when you add up all their contributions it totals that

@marekfuller @YouTube You know I saw that film when I was 14 or so and thought the peasants were hilariously annoying. I saw the film again 7 years later & thought “wait! What they’re saying is totally reasonable & King Arthur is beating them up for no reason. How did I manage not to notice that?”

@NouriPen @inside_lemon @nikadubrovsky hey that was supposed to be “muster”. Damn that autocorrect

@tropicalontour @nikadubrovsky we’re going to have to make a special page for people to point those out! thanks

@Timjag72 they most certainly do, it was Thatcher’s plan to turn us all into petty bourgeoisie and fear socialism

@james_e_baldwin not myself. actually I think there’s a number of such projects. Amazon is basically killing conventional small publishing in the same way as Sage and Elsevier did academic publishing so people increasingly have to improvise

@inside_lemon @nikadubrovsky @NouriPen oh that’s interesting. I didn’t know that. Well, there’s an Anthropology for Kids webpage already but it won’t have the same week-to-week material https://t.co/LJB9Zepi00

@humpsmith @nikadubrovsky yeah I know that’s why I said “almost final” draft – part of the problem is we keep passing it back & forth to a designer who doesn’t actually speak English, part of the problem is just me

@james_e_baldwin a very good point! I mean it’s true that as an 9-year-old boy my favourite section of the Metropolitan Museum of Art was always arms & armour which I used to elaborately sketch… but still!
