@tyb_garbage @scottsgonetopot You are confusing the “working class” and “petty bourgeoisie” I suspect

@scottsgonetopot @tyb_garbage A basic Tory logic they also used for UBI: it’s not right to assist rich people if poor people get it too

@jangrosser85 The interviewer told me he sees Zizek take out the recycling every evening from his living room window. I asked if SZ uses gloves and he said “religiously”

@BabsSheKing @existentialcoms it’s also extraordinarily ecologically destructive. They could build hardware that would last 20 years and instead make it last 2. That’s 10x more carbon, extraction of resources…

2

@LongDesertTrain @existentialcoms yes but a less known aspect of his work was his argument that profits for capitalist are not based on enhancing productivity but “subverting” it

@guslinton one thing I always enjoy is the habit in many parts of Africa that if, say, a group of four people meets a group of six people, everyone in one group must shake hands with everyone in the other. Creates kind of a nice feeling.

@steinmuller Hans this title wasn’t referring to Clark, let alone to your objections to his mathematical analysis. We’ve been using the phrase for years now

@BFlankinson iceland wins. At least higher rate of published authors per capita. But that’s published. In many societies non-industrial societies, in Africa, Oceania, etc, even now in some parts of rural Europe pretty much everyone is a musician at the very least

@dsa_lsc I have always felt that the Maya definitely created the worlds most beautiful writing system

@daybeforeyeste1 @breadsci I think you are interpreting “freedom” to mean “the power to enslave.”

@JBujes @acc_anarcho I wrote the phrase several times, first time “with guns” when I lived in the US, since I’ve changed it to “carrying weapons”

@clifee @MordechaiGabai old fashioned authoritarianism might have taught people to blindly their superiors, but the new fascist-infused variety encourages suspicion towards everyone, especially scientists & technocrats.

@clifee @MordechaiGabai I didn’t say “schooling” I said “trained” which implies a larger media/social environment -the fact is, a lot of Trump supporters actually believe the virus is either not real or exaggerated by big pharma & corrupt doctors to get money

@MordechaiGabai no they’re trained to be so suspicious of authority that all statements are assumed to be lies, so the one most honest about the fact he’s lying is seen as the best you can get

2

@KevinMu84216654 yes exactly the trick is to have us all discussing the trick as if its happening to someone else

@scottfitzpatr13 Hey look I’m all about coming up with a revolutionary slogan when appropriate. But it doesn’t really work to ward off disease
