@LongDesertTrain @Chomskyter @w41gy @inuesse yes they only oppose giving money to the rich if poor people get it too. Otherwise they’re fine with it.

@LongDesertTrain @Chomskyter @w41gy @inuesse the moment you means-test any benefit, 15-20% of all those who qualify don’t even apply

@daniosauris @10000hamsters it’s so funny how oblivious you seem to be to the fact this very form of hysterical behaviour is what REALLY alienates 95% of those people whose “lived experiences” you claim to want to identify with.

@daniosauris @10000hamsters um the 2-3 people who had anything to say about their lived experience were friendly & made reasonable points, since they knew I was being whimsical & took it in that spirit. The people who jumped on chairs & made hysterical asses of themselves were coming from a different place

@TheUngood oh yeah I was just throwing it out because Uruguay & Bolivia no longer have left-wing gov’ts – the whole point of the exercise was to cause people to reflect on just how few gov’ts there are in the world you can say anything positive about

@w41gy @inuesse UBI isn’t supposed to be a magic bullet that cures everything, but its big advantage is it destroys conditionality, which justifies enormous judgmental bureaucracies that alienate poor people & encourage them to hate each other & vote for the right.

@hdevalence well it got 1.8k likes, and maybe about 18 people objecting – if very vociferously – so I’d say it’s running about 100-to-1 actually

@chet12963549 I tend to treat my twitter followers as friends. Some people however want me to instead behave like a celebrity and to be treated as an audience sitting in judgment of my performance. I see it as a kind of consumerism.

@WerwulfMthrFkr I think his definition of Puritanism better applies: “the haunting fear that somewhere, somebody might be happy”

@10000hamsters @daniosauris not intimately. Need to catch up on some of that stuff! and thanks

@ma_mchugh God when I first saw that I thought it was Brad Will! Kind of terrifying how much he looks like Brad used to.

@10000hamsters well we’ve been in touch with Barbara Alice Mann and a few others. Actually I owe her a message don’t I?

@10000hamsters if you can’t figure out this is why 95% of the people you claim you want to ally with see you as a bunch of buffoons, you really might want to get back to work on this

1

@10000hamsters if you don’t think something is a fun thought experiment, ignore it. Or I suppose if you have to hear yourself speak, say so. If you instead raise a furor, pretend the author said things they obviously didn’t, & then prepare official statements condemning him, you have a problem.

2

@CollateralWill in America its a side effect of Puritanism. The moral status of the individual is what it’s always ultimately all about. Puritanism is about proving yourself superior by trying to demonstrate you hate yourself the most.

@watermelonpunch You really like to see the bright side of everything don’t you? Well it’s a nice quality.

@10000hamsters @daniosauris Yes but their viewpoint is idiotic. This is why the left makes itself a laughingstock in the eyes of all the people who might otherwise wish to make a revolution

@Ayan_mmxvii @chrisgelardi He seems to be a vaguely awful person. I’m trying to decide whether to mute or block.

@DorgeJohn @chrisgelardi As I say I got a call from a friend in California telling me the DSA had been preparing a bill to publicly condemn me

@chrisgelardi The DSA was preparing an entire bill condemning me. This is classic bullying. First make an unprovoked attack, then attack the victim for how they reacted. You should be ashamed of yourself.

@watermelonpunch Well I don’t expect branches of the DSA to prepare statements denouncing me for racism as a result! But it apparently happened
