@dominichills5 @wales_steve I can’t see how a mere 5% difference in emissions would have the dramatic effects reported – unless the claim is they are faked https://t.co/lBL1TIjAoa

@wales_steve @dominichills5 I actually saw satellite pictures of China. Likewise the Himalayas story appears to be real. No one is saying that everything is suddenly fine. But you also want to give people a sign of hope. So the moral logic of your intervention puzzles me.

@wales_steve they are the worst people we could conceivably have in place as an opposition at a moment where we have to change everything fast to save the planet and there’s actually an opportunity to do so

@dominichills5 @wales_steve it only takes a 5% difference and then Indians suddenly can see the Himalayas and visible pollution largely vanishes over China? This seems unlikely.

@RegisDebord @jcrgordon5 @ElmerEdritch @MerryMichaelW how is Liberation? (They want me to do a piece.)

@thispersephone @l_ronaldson there is a very weird impulse on the part of both Trump and Cummings (the actual brain behind Johnson) to try to kill off their core voter base

@heyryank so you knew that I’d written a book on the subject had been pretending ignorance? Or you’re just completely full of shit & are pretending you knew? You might as well tattoo “NOT WORTH EVEN TRYING TO TALK TO” across your forehead. Bye.

@NeilRose12 I once had a job as the top interlibrary loan specialist at University of Chicago – I found the books no one else could. It was safe, tricky, technically difficult, perhaps 6 people on earth could do it. They paid me shit & I didn’t even get medical, let alone dental.

@eyevangazidis @Timjag72 @ChrisvdKieboom yeah yeah but I’m talking about how it really works, not economic theory

@Aidan_Harper_ @Sarahsarnie @emilygraceS91 Blair Fix has shown income is linked to power/hierarchical position but not exactly ability to damage others

@kellydanc @trotskybaby I didn’t actually notice any indigenous people objecting to that tweet – and all the people actually from NZ that objected were friendly & informative, not hysterical and condemnatory.

@kellydanc @trotskybaby it’s also a function of social class. The PMC is all about performing the role, words are everything; activists of working class background tend to emphasise what you actually do

@kellydanc @trotskybaby nail on the head! They’re (mostly) settlers living in a settler state. I mean if they feel the existence of settler states is so outrageous, they could leave. (I did.) But the less inclined US lefties are to act, the more obsessive they become about policing speech.

@Curious_Chak @chrisgelardi now I’m not saying that if they consider the existence of settler states that outrageous, maybe they shouldn’t live in one, I’m just saying the contradiction seems to make them extremely insecure 2/

@Curious_Chak @chrisgelardi well what’s the logic of denouncing me for praising Jacinda Arden, on the grounds that NZ is a settler state, when they are themselves settlers living in a settler state? The irony is I was born an American of European descent who went back to Europe. They didn’t. 1/

@silenceindustry well it worked fine for about 98% of the audience. The problem is if you have 10k followers …

@hero_ofdreamers Bhutan is actually a pretty cool monarchy, what with their happiness project (Nepal not so much). But we mustn’t forget Swaziland. Or the Shilluk reth if it doesn’t have to be a whole country.

@pssttickvoung @daniosauris @10000hamsters let me guess, you’re a North American white descendent of settlers right?

@Curious_Chak @chrisgelardi apparently many US radicals hate to be reminded they’re settlers who refuse to leave the indigenous land they’re squatting, so they consider it in poor taste to say anything that might bring the fact to mind, even obliquely

@kellydanc it’s also a great way to bounce around ideas. There’s just a lot of trolls (who can be blocked) and a lot of self-righteous liberal idiots who think they can prove they’re really radical by calling any actual revolutionary a liberal, pro-imperialist, or racist

@MarcusDAurelius I could write a book. Oh wait. I did! I based it on gathering testimonies from people who were convinced their own jobs shouldn’t exist. According to one survey 37% of workers in the UK think their jobs make no meaningful contribution to anything. https://t.co/1egI848z60
